Ms. Rao (she/her/hers)
Hello! My name is Ms. Rao (rhymes with: wow) and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your Elementary Science Specialist for grades PreK-5. I have been teaching science in SPPS since 2017 and I have an immense passion for fostering curiosity and creativity in young minds. In our science classes, we will delve into inquiry-based learning experiences designed to spark imagination and critical thinking. My goal is not only to teach scientific concepts but also to inspire our students to develop a lifelong love for learning who will question, explore, experiment, and learn from their surroundings.
When I'm not teaching or planning lessons, you can catch me working out at Orange Theory or spending time with my three adorable cats Yuki, Kairi, and Bagheera at home. You also might find me exploring new cultures through international travel, indulging in my love for anime, or roleplaying in a game of Dungeons & Dragons. In August 2024, I celebrated my dream wedding with my husband Aidan amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Shire in Matamata, New Zealand (we love Lord of the Rings).
This experience not only reminded me of the interconnectedness between nature and science, but also introduced me to the rich Māori culture, reinforcing my passion for the IB PYP framework we use at Highland Park Elementary. By encouraging students to investigate the world around them, from diverse ecosystems to vibrant cultural practices, we foster a fervor for scientific discovery and cultural understanding. My approach to learning aligns perfectly with our goal of nurturing internationally-minded learners who appreciate the value of both scientific inquiry and cultural diversity.
I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for science with your children and watching them grow into thoughtful scientists who are eager to discover the wonders of our world!
