Where Creativity Comes Alive
Welcome to the Highland Park Elementary Art page, where creativity flourishes and young minds are nurtured through artistic expression! Our art program is designed to inspire and engage students from PreK through 5th grade, providing them with a rich and diverse artistic experience. Art education plays a crucial role in a child's development, fostering cognitive abilities, critical thinking skills, and emotional resilience while encouraging self-expression and imagination. Through our program, students will explore various mediums and techniques, including drawing, painting, clay/ceramics, 3D art, collage, fibers, and printmaking, all of which contribute to their holistic growth and learning.
At Highland Park Elementary, our art curriculum aligns with the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts, which consist of four strands: Artistic Foundations, Artistic Process: Create or Make, Artistic Process: Perform or Present, and Artistic Process: Respond or Critique. These standards are seamlessly integrated into our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) framework, which emphasizes transdisciplinary learning and personal growth. Through collaborative projects and inquiry-based learning, students explore art in connection with other subjects, developing a deeper understanding of the world around them. Our art program also incorporates the IB Learner Profile attributes, encouraging students to be risk-takers, open-minded, and reflective in their artistic journey. By embracing art education in this comprehensive manner, we aim to nurture well-rounded individuals who are not only skilled in artistic expression but also prepared for future academic and personal success.
