Science
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Highland Park Elementary integrates science and engineering as part of its transdisciplinary curriculum framework, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and conceptual understanding. Within this framework, our elementary science classes explore the biological, chemical, and physical aspects of the natural world while also incorporating engineering principles to solve real-world problems.
PYP science education encourages our students to develop a sense of responsibility regarding the impact of their actions on themselves, others, and the environment. The program's approach combines scientific concepts and skills with engineering design processes, all woven into units of inquiry that explore themes such as "How the World Works."
By engaging in scientific inquiry and engineering challenges, PYP students develop knowledge, conceptual understandings, and skills that empower them to make a positive difference in their own lives, communities, and beyond.
