Welcome to Pre-K and ECSE at Highland Park Elementary
HPE is excited to offer Pre-Kindergarten classes to our families! We have three programs to fit the needs of all hopeful students. All classes meet five days a week and follow the SPPS school year calendar.

Early Childhood Special Education Self-Contained - Half Day
Our first class is an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) self-contained class for students after their 3rd birthday who have qualified for Special Education. It is a half-day, morning only class that meets daily from 7:30am until 10:00am. It has 8 students who have additional needs with 1 special education teacher and 2 special education teaching assistants.
Early Childhood Special Education Self-Contained - Full Day
We also offer an Early Childhood Special Education self-contained class that is full-day for students who are 4 years old by September 1st who have qualified for Special Education. This class will meet daily from 7:30am until 2pm, has 8 students taught by 1 special education teacher and 2 special education teaching assistants.
Full-Day Pre-K
We have two full-day PreK classes that meet daily from 7:30am until 2:00pm and have a maximum of 20 students taught by 1 general education teacher and 1 general education teaching assistant. We provide a warm, nurturing, collaborative environment which helps foster the development and potential of each child. Our students learn through active play and inquiry, as well as small group and whole group experiences. Our curriculum, "Discovering Our World," was written by St. Paul Public Schools Pre-K teachers, coaches, parent educators and administrators.
