WordMasters is an analogy competition for students in grades 3-6. Each grade level participates in three competitions with 25 words for each competition. The competitions take place in December, February, and April. Each successive meet is cumulative so that analogies can be made with only 25 words for the first meet, any of the first 50 words for meet two, and any of the 75 words for meet three. Overall winners of the competition will receive a medal. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The expectation is that students will study their words and meanings, and practice with analogies, on their own time at home. Several practice sessions are provided at school for each meet, however, these alone are not enough for students to be prepared to do well in the meets themselves. The schedule for each grade level is listed below. Questions or concerns can be directed to david.bollom@spps.org.
