DANIELLE MANDICH, STUDENT TEACHER, TEACHES FULL TIME
Ms Mandich has taken over the helm of Room 210 full time to fulfill her requirement as a student teacher. She has a calm, professional manner with the children, and they respond well to her. She is carrying on all the curriculum and classroom planning with confidence. Her last day in our classroom will be Oct 29. She leaves on October 30 to fly to New Zealand for a student teaching opportunity there! We will wish her well.
COMPLETING PYP UNIT OF INQUIRY: RULES AS TOOLS
We are concluding our first PYP Unit of Inquiry, Rules as Tools. We have learned how rules help us be safe, how rules help us get along, and how rules keep things fair. This is the perfect unit for the beginning of the school year as we implement our classroom essential agreement and learn the routines of the classroom and school. We created Rules as Tools toolboxes with tools naming a rule for home, school and community and whether it keeps us safe, helps us get along or keeps things fair. Watch for them in the hallway.
UPCOMING PYP UNIT OF INQUIRY: SCHOOL AS A WORKPLACE
Our next Unit of Inquiry is School as a Workplace.
Organizing Theme: How We Organize Ourselves
Central Idea: Schools are places where people do many kinds of work.
Lines of Inquiry: the work people do in schools
contributions of work to educating students
feelings people have about their work
We will interview and job shadow workers at school to gather information about the Lines of Inquiry. If you have a “school job” and can visit us as a guest speaker, please contact me for a time.
FIELD TRIP TO SPPS NUTRITION CENTER
As part of our School as a Workplace unit of inquiry, we will visit the district Nutrition Center at 1930 Como Ave on Tuesday, Oct 27. We will tour the storage areas, including walk-in pantries, refrigerators and freezers! We will see where our breakfasts and lunches are prepared. We will eat our lunches there, then come back to HPE. If you can chaperone, please contact me. Leaving by 9:30, returning between 12:30-1.
AUTUMN FESTIVAL
We will celebrate Autumn on Friday, Oct 30. If you wish to send a special treat, please make it nutritious or non-food. Things like dried or canned fruit, cheese and crackers, stickers or special pencils are great!
HOMEWORK
All but one student returned the September Homework and Reading Log. WOW! Students have one extra day after the due date to bring homework to school to earn Homework Free Choice. Those who have not brought homework have Study Hall during that time. Thanks for helping your child make homework a habit!
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
We go out for recess every day we can. Please help your child be prepared with the proper clothing!
