Welcome to Highland Park Elementary! Kindergarten is the most
exciting year in school. I am looking forward to working with you to
make it a very happy, successful, and safe year for your child. Since your child will be spending a little over 6 hours a day with me, I figure you would like to know a little bit about me. My
family is very important to me. I have 3 little ones who keep me on
my toes: Christopher (9), Joshua (6), and Elizabeth (5). All three of my children attend school here at Highland Park Elementary. When I
am not teaching and the weather permits, you can find me outdoors. This summer I purchased a new bike and had a wonderful time checking out area trails. Other favorite activities: reading, jogging, water skiing, going to the beach with my kids, kayaking, and camping. I ran my first 5k this summer. There may be more to come! So,
what qualifies me to teach kindergarten to your child (besides the fact
that I love it)? I received my bachelor’s degree from the College of
St. Catherine, where I majored in Elementary Education and Spanish. I
completed my graduate work through St. Mary’s University, where I
focused my research and studies on early literacy. This will be my
15th year teaching in St., Paul, with most of those years spent
teaching kindergarten. This is my fourth year teaching at HPE. In addition to teaching here at Highland Park, I also am a trainer for American Federation of Teachers (AFT) both locally and nationally. One of the highlights this summer was facilitating a 7 day
Educational Research & Dissemination seminar "School, Family, Community - Supporting Student Learning" in Baltimore, MD. Not only did I have a chance to participate in a great
professional development opportunity , I was able to enjoy the Baltimore area and fabulous sea food!
We will have a wonderful year.
Please remember that I encourage communication between home and
school. Your questions, concerns, and ideas are always welcome. The
easiest way is to get a hold of me is to send an email to
sarah.woxland@spps.org. If a phone call is preferred, call the HPE
office 293-8775 x211.
